About

We design and produce responsible designs from industrial offcuts and reclaimed materials helping architects, hospitality operators and forward-thinking brands create spaces that are distinctive, measurable in impact, and built to last.

After three years as a product design and communication studio, we set ourselves one objective:

Consume and produce differently.

In a context of massive new material production, we focus on what already exists. We transform overlooked industrial resources into high-performance pieces with a strong identity.

Creating designs that is singular by nature and responsible by choice.

United by a passion for sustainability, we collaborate to find solutions for a better future.

How it started

Duplex Studio was born in 2020, during the COVID period. At the time, we were exploring one central question: How can design and communication work together to better transmit meaningful solutions?

We developed multiple concepts across different industries : connected kitchen devices, furniture collections, collectible pins, a re-edition of a Jules Wabbes lamp, sweet spreads, structures for people with reduced mobility, gaming tables, eyewear production processes, and more.

But very quickly, one direction became obvious. We felt a strong affinity with furniture. And even more with a set of values:

  • Reuse over extraction

  • Distributed design

  • Global design, local production

  • Open knowledge

This led us to our last self-initiated project as a studio: GIO.

GIO is a lamp made from stone offcuts and 3D-printed bio-plastic. Inspired by the Distributed Design movement, GIO explored how finished products are manufactured while improving the relationship between designer, producer and client.

The concept was simple but radical: The design could travel globally. The production would remain local.

The digital file was shared internationally. Each region could produce the same lamp using its own local stone waste : Belgian blue stone, Italian travertine, French limestone. The form remained identical. The material told a local story.

GIO was more than a lamp. It was a proof of concept.

After strong positive feedback and a growing desire to create a real alternative to industrial production and material management systems, we made a strategic shift.

Duplex Studio became Duplex. Not a design studio. And even more than just a furniture brand.

A belgian brand fully dedicated to circular designs made from industrial offcuts and reclaimed materials. We moved from experimentation to implementation.
