Munch - Saint-Gilles, Brussels
A pan-Asian canteen where street food meets Saint-Gilles energy
Munch landed in Saint-Gilles with a simple promise: proper pan-Asian street food, no frills attached. Best known for its roujiamo, the crispy Chinese answer to a burger, the canteen built its interior around the same straightforward spirit. Studio Cayelle shaped the space with a raw wood counter, a wide circular bar and steel tables, replacing what used to be a more plastic, street-style setup. The result feels like a proper canteen: you queue, you order fast, you stay for the buzz.
Working alongside Studio Cayelle, we produced around twenty pieces for the space: WD01 stools and WD01 high stools, finished in an intense black stain to match the kitchen's raw, no-nonsense character. Made from reclaimed wood flooring, each piece carries the same honest, unfussy energy as the food coming out of the kitchen.
For us, Munch is proof that good food and good furniture run on the same instincts: honest materials, no excess, built to last the rush. If you're around Saint-Gilles, pull up a stool. The cuisine is worth the trip.
